ghost signs of stoke newington trail

THE STOKE NEWINGTON HERITAGE MURAL PROJECT is a community arts and heritage project that explores the radical and literary histories of Stoke Newington through poetry, heritage and art.

The project began in Autumn 2015 and will culminate in the production of a mural, on a large wall that over-looks the William Patten Primary School playground.

The finished mural will be typographic in form, and will draw inspiration from 'Ghostsigns', the faded traces of late Victorian advertising signage painted onto the brickwork of buildings that are a characteristic feature of the local area.

As part of the project’s ongoing engagement activity program, White Wall Yellow Door produced a Ghostsign Trail that includes an A3 sized map of the local area, a drawing activity, and a series of written prompts that provide some historical and technical context to the signs featured on the trail.

A further engagement activity associated with this exciting project is currently in production and will be announced in February 2016

Funded by The Arts Council England and The Heritage Lottery Fund.
